ShareCity Implementation of Provincial Protocols

Dear RMMHA Community,
It has been great seeing many of you at the rink to take in the positive energy that has been missing for many months. Most importantly, we are so pleased to have children back on the ice playing hockey! Unfortunately, although we have enjoyed a return to hockey, we haven’t returned to the full-fledged normal life we were accustomed to living. As you are surely aware, today is the day the Ontario government is enforcing new protocols.
RMMHA does not have a stance on vaccines, or people’s choices; however, we are required to adhere to provincial regulations. Effective September 22nd 2021, City of Ottawa facilities and Beckwith will require patrons to be fully vaccinated and will have to provide proof of their vaccination status and ID to enter their facilities.
Exemptions (i.e. not requiring proof of vaccination) include:
- All players registered to play hockey from U7-U18.
- Volunteers (coaches and bench staff) actively involved in the organized youth sports.
All adults and youth over 11 years old who accompany children or youth into a facility for activities (i.e. spectators) will require proof they have been fully vaccinated.
The City of Ottawa is instituting these requirements; however, the management and enforcement of these protocols have been placed in the hands of the volunteers running your children’s hockey programs.
This has the potential to be contentious, and unfortunately may put neighbours and association members in uncomfortable positions. In addition to providing our community with updated information, the purpose of this communication is to also hopefully prevent situations that leave people feeling uncomfortable and upset at the rink.
We ask for your understanding and patience as we continue to navigate through these challenging times.
