Re: Province of Ontario and City of Ottawa Red Zone Restrictions

On Thursday, March 18th, the Province of Ontario and the Ottawa Public Health Unit announced that the region encompassing the Ottawa Public Health Unit would be moved into the Red Control zone. This will impact Hockey Eastern Ontario programs based within the Ottawa Public Health Unit’s area. Red Control means:

• All sports and recreational programs at facilities (arenas and multiplexes) are limited to 10 people per room indoors and 25 outdoors.
• Team sports must not be practiced or played except for training (no games or scrimmages).
• No contact permitted for team or individual sports.

Hockey programs based outside of the Ottawa Public Health Unit may continue to operate in the Provincially Mandated Colour assigned to their region and Health Unit, and must always follow their Public Health Unit and Municipality’s/Facility’s direction, while adhering to the HEO Return to Hockey Framework.

HEO members are not prohibited from taking part in private instruction and other sports; however, all HEO members, especially those who reside in the Ottawa Public Health Unit are strongly encouraged to consider limiting the bubbles and activities with which they are involved, as we collectively work to limit the spread of COVID19. HEO members are also asked to ensure that if they do participate in private instruction and other sports, that similar protocols (self-screening, wearing masks, social distancing) are in place and respected by all, and if not, to withdraw from such activities. We can only protect HEO hockey if we are careful and responsible in all of our activities. All HEO Members must also confer with their Minor Hockey Association to ensure they do not have more restrictive policies or regulations in place.

HEO and all of its members are committed to following provincial and health unit direction in order to ensure we do our part in protecting our communities and making this game as safe as possible.
