Urgent information - action required

2020-10-16

Members:

Recent changes have been made by the provincial government that place severe limitations on our ability to continue to offer the hockey program that we did at the beginning of the season.  Having observed the boredom that many of the youth in our community felt last spring as well as the smiles on their faces upon returning to the ice this fall, we believe that it is extremely important to do what we can to keep the members of the RMMHA on the ice.  We are working hard to make this happen.

The following email contains significant information related to our ability to keep our players on the ice.  Please take the time to read it thoroughly.

Limitations implemented by the provincial government only allow ten people in the arena at a time.  This includes coaches/trainers and players.  These restrictions are currently scheduled to be in place until November.  Further conditions related to the use of the arena will be outlined below.  We are committed to returning to normal programming as soon as we are permitted to by government and health authorities.  As an executive we will continue to operate on a cost recovery basis.  In order to do this given the registration fees paid, groups will have to be reduced to an average of one hour of ice per week.

When registering for this season, members were informed of a refund policy that was adopted by the member associations within "District 4" for the 2020-2021 season.  This policy allows for a 25% refund prior to October 31st.  Realizing that it would have been difficult to anticipate this particular policy implementation by the Government of Ontario we feel that the spirit of this refund policy may not be fully applicable to the current situation.  As a result, if you do feel that you cannot continue given the situation outlined below, we are willing to offer a refund of 50% until noon (12:00pm) on Sunday, October 18th.  After that, we will continue to offer a 25% refund until October 31st.

Conditions under which we will proceed:
  • Each player will receive on average, one hour of ice per week
  • Maximum of ten people within the building
  • No spectators will be permitted in the arena
  • Players must arrive fully dressed (it is recommended that players put skates on prior to entry utilizing skate guards)
  • There will be no access to change rooms
  • Teams will continue to have a safety officer to ensure that wellness checks have been completed prior to entry
  • The focus will be on skill development while scrimmages are not permitted

If you decide to withdraw at this time and programming returns to normal, players will not be permitted to reregister until January (space permitting) as decisions related to ice retention will be made based upon member interest.

If you do wish to withdraw prior to noon on Sunday, October 18th, please email our registrar (registrar.rmmha@gmail.com) and cc our president (johnrmmha@gmail.com).

Again, our goal is to keep the players on the ice allowing them an opportunity to remain engaged in an activity they love.  We appreciate your understanding as we attempt to navigate through this difficult time.
