OVSS Memo: Novice Program 2019-2020 Season Update

Please be advised of the following updated changes to the Novice Program for the upcoming 2019-2020 hockey season.

Due to the policy change whereby the Rep “B” clubs are no longer allowed to host competitive “B”, Ottawa Valley Silver Seven may host two teams designated “A” at the Novice level for the 2019-2020 season depending on the number of tryout registrants at the caliber interested in playing at the competitive level.
OVSS will also roster both 2011 and 2012 birth year players, tryouts begin in August, stay tuned to our website for tryout registration information.
We continue to adhere to the policy changes listed below that were posted previously as mandated by Hockey Canada.
Synopsis of changes:

1. Teams must consist of 16 skaters and 2 goaltenders.
2. Format of the games are the teams are divided in half.
3. Four on Four hockey, teams will be divided to play on each half of the ice, 8 per side and one goalie.
4. Shift length – 90 seconds with buzzer.
5. At the end of the half, visiting team switches ends.
6. No scores although there must be a game sheet.
7. Penalties are assessed, the offending player will sit out the next shift, but the team will play even strength.
8. Two officials are required, one for each end.
9. Novice Tournaments will be available as sanctioned through Hockey Canada in the 4 on 4 format.
10. Playoffs for the AA/A League are still to be determined.

This season is one of upcoming change and OVSS is looking to make this transition as smooth as possible, we appreciate everyone’s patience as the league details are pending.
