Ottawa Police accepts MPP Lisa MacLeod’s Charity Hockey Challenge

2019-02-08

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, February 5, 2019      4:14pm

(Ottawa) –The Ottawa Police will be lacing up for a Charity Hockey Challenge, organized by MPP Lisa MacLeod to gather children’s hockey equipment donations for the new rink at the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa (BGCO).

“This is a great example of people in local organizations, government and the community coming together to build a place for kids to learn to skate or play hockey,” said Ottawa Police Service Deputy Chief Steve Bell, who accepted the challenge on behalf of police. “The final step is to provide the equipment so kids can have an opportunity to use the rink they otherwise may not have.”

Equipment drop-offs can be made at any participating city councillor, MP and MPP offices, one of three Ottawa Police Service stations and designated arenas on or before February 15, 2019.

As well, there will be a chili cook-off between police and councillors. Hot chocolate and chili will be free to everyone coming out to show their support at the game. Bring your skates for the open skate at 1 pm.

TIME:                        12 pm – 2 pm

LOCATION:             1463 Prince of Wales Drive, BGCO Tomlinson Foundation Family Clubhouse

The rink is part of the Tomlinson Foundation Family Clubhouse renovation, made possible through funds generously provided by Ringside for Youth, the 50/50 draw at the 2017 NHL Winter Classic and the Ottawa Senators Foundation.

The rink, scheduled to open in mid-February, will serve kids across the Ottawa region.
