Message from Hockey Operations

2018-10-24

Hello RMMHA community,

With the season underway, we wanted to reach out to share a couple of messages:

1.  Thank you to everyone for your patience throughout the sort-out process. Although we had a few hurddles to clear, thanks to the hard work of many volunteers, the process was able to be completed in good order.

2.  Hockey Canada is mandating all of its associations to message and implement gender identity sensitivity. In fact, RMMHA is going to be audited by Hockey Canada in early November to ensure we are complying.  I have asked all the coaches to read the below message to their teams. If questions arise players (or you) can separately approach the coach or me, Craig Dunn. I felt it was important the message be emailed to families prior to coaches reading, in order for everyone to understand and prepare for the messaging.

As part of a growing, global movement Hockey Canada is requiring all member associations to review expectations toward decent human interaction and inclusion. All members of RMMHA have the right to feel safe and included in our community.  As part of an inclusive organization, bullying, discrimination or making fun of someone in a hurtful manner are not appropriate or acceptable. People may not be teased about gender expression, hairstyles or clothing options. Any player who is not comfortable changing in the locker room may be provided an alternative option and not be bothered for exercising this option. Our mandate is to provide an enjoyable hockey experience for our players, coaches and parents.  For this to occur, we all need to respect each other’s differences and respect diversity. Should you have specific questions, please see your coach.

See you at the rink,
